Kindergarten

In October, kindergarten students read books in class about monsters. In art, Kindergarten and 1st grade students read the book "Jeremy Draws a Monster" by Peter McCarty. They learned about organic shapes and used yarn to trace random organic shapes on paper. They then turned these shapes into monsters using crayon.

Next, students learned how to create circles, rectangles, and triangles by cutting square paper. They learned about masks and created their own cut paper masks while practicing their cutting and gluing skills.

First grade students created their own masks using similar paper bending and folding techniques, but they also used texture rubbing to create bumpy looking faces for their monster masks.
